IN HONOR, AN HONOR

IN HONOR, AN HONOR      ©2013  Meg Devlin Irish

Silence is golden; on peaceful shores crippling,
when fears arise on seas untamed,
opening wounds of lost heroes
glory regrets to name!
In honor, is there refuge
but a hand reached at death’s stop,
crushing what anger has wrought?
An honor to salute that hand
for those who served and time forgot!

SURRENDER

          SURRENDER       2013 Meg Devlin Irish

The shifting of the sun,
the rising of the moon,
transpire and unbraid
as cascading mountain peaks,
insurmountably free,
surrender to the depths of the sea!
So, I hasten not the sun
or the timely gift of moon,
for all that is I can't see.
But, like forested leaves from autumn trees,
I know the surrender to be!

SUNRISE REMEMBERS AUTUMN

Sunrise Remembers Autumn  2013  Meg Devlin Irish

She winks and blushes, then sidles, as if to tease
in fiery assent over mountaintop trees.
Aureate beams, burnished strokes, herald on blue
as Sunrise remembers Autumn!

She twirls down branches, haplessly crumpling leaves.
Their rusty mottled presence purports to deceive.
But, for Creator, giving a grander view,
Sunrise remembers Autumn!

NATURES PAGES

NATURES PAGES     2013  Meg Devlin Irish

A wisp of wind dances unheeding
as I mark the page I've left reading;
for autumn morn breaks through the east wood
where the maple and birch have long stood!

My porch dappled, dancing and beaming
in light waves adrift on daydreaming,
as natures' scent comes to fill the bouquet
from neighboring farmer baling his hay!

Monarchs dance amidst blossoms shedding
in gardens too soon set for bedding!
Such beauty and freedom grace earths' display,
a gifted diadem blessing my day!

Yet, leave I must this sprightly morning,
though for daydream I'm truly born in.
Thankful for the journey and poets look
at pages from natures sensual book!

A  LABORERS'  REST    2013     Meg Devlin Irish
( Memories of Wolcott, Vermont)

Fresh baked up bread from the oven
toasts up the best come late mornin'.
The loaf set on wood sill for teasin'
your boot steps to porch boards a creakin'.
Daybreak has long since past
while you've labored away your breakfast!

Fresh cut hay laid early Autumn,
rakes up the best well past mornin'.
The lazy sun, east - west reclinin',
a brief rest assured in it's timin'.
Daybreak has long since past
while you've labored away your breakfast!

Fresh news, a nor' easter's comin',
testing a man a chilly mornin'!
As sure as the roof needs a patchin',
and the wood needs splittin' and stackin',
daybreak has long since past
while you've labored away your breakfast!

Fresh tea from the kettles' a warmin'.
Daydream me back early mornin'.
The moon on our bedpost soft glowin',
our bodies entwined, even knowin',
daybreak will long be past
while you labor away your breakfast!

ROSEBUD

ROSEBUD  2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Rosebud, hurry blossoming, I can hardly wait,
for I am blushed impatient, and of unforgiving fate!
In fragrant fullness linger, for at once you are
the commanding floruit courser of my captive heart!

INSPIRATION

INSPIRATION         2013   Meg Devlin Irish

You pocket me in transcendent bliss.
I am assumed in color ardent and royal
with no escape from the discourse!
How you come in moments of rare plenty
and brandish me in verse!
In a whispering hush my pen leads my hand
as if rehearsed!

BEFORE DAYS' END

BEFORE DAYS' END     2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Before days' end,
before my feet chastise the stairs,
I will peek through curtain lace
and you will be there.
As sure as time has no end, I will wait!
There is naught but for us to transcend
this quenching of our souls' embrace!

AFTER THE MAMMOGRAM

AFTER THE MAMMOGRAM  2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Out of the stillness she weeps into the trough of life
as the barren land acquiesces to her fertile offering.
No longer sheltering the lingering dolor beneath her wings,
she knows she must rise to greet the dawn
as an exemplar of courage to those who know her,
as a radiant beam to those who love her.

EARLY MORNING

EARLY MORNING   2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Oh, early morning, let me see you one more time
with your sweet song of sunrise misting my eyes,
the chip chirping and tapping echoing from trees,
my dew dampened feet dancing and honeysuckle breeze
ever changing my thoughts to kindlier deeds.
Make haste on me sunrise, times drawing down
the glow from my cheeks and my aging silk gown!

LOVE'S COMPROMISE

LOVE'S COMPROMISE   2013 Meg Devlin Irish

If you had known the outcome,
the ending near and ready,
the tears and the trials,
the triumph and dead ends,
would you have begun?

If the answer came before you asked,
would you have saved your breath,
let the moment pass empty,
or rush to portend
heaven in which to bask?

I do dare ask....because

                                    like..........

                                                    you know......?

WINDSONG

WINDSONG        2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Draw me forth from the cradle of creation
so that I may embrace the wind.
What would there be if not space to be?
Gather me in the reaches of forever.
Unfurling, fluttering, soaring
as an eagle at dawn,
to rest in the ease of knowing
something greater, more powerful
has it’s breath in my Windsong!

LOVE'S MIGHTY DECREE

Love's Mighty Decree    2013 Meg Devlin Irish

When in this life I crave to witness no more
of life outside heaven's door,
when a touch is all that's left me,
let it be for all eternity.
With no memory of words on rasping breath
or bending to hear on a lingering stretch.
When my legs no longer stand
let it be the touch of your hand
that carries through all eternity
Love's Mighty Decree!

NOTHING BUT DAY

Nothing But Day    2013 Meg Devlin Irish

Sun shining through crystalline trees
as last night's storm has blessed us deep.
I, wrapped in warmth behind window glass
so painted and frosted, I wish it to last.

In one quaking moment, a glimmer of red,
his majestic presence alights on the shed.
Alert in the stillness, ready at chance
for his mate and comrade to share Winter's dance.

Where's my camera lens so sharp and clear
to capture this moment with no danger near?
Oh, but a flicker would scare them away,
and I would be left with nothing but day!

LOVE

Love     2013  Meg Devlin Irish

If we could arise from the darkness and fear of night,
through waves of conscious awakened mind,
that a world which can be set on fire by terror and evil
can be healed by one word....
Who would speak it?

" My portion is the Lord, says my soul; therefore I will hope in him."  Lamentations 3:24
